I’m wondering when I would choose one over the other. The 8 seems to have a higher TOPS but looking at some of the FPS benchmarks in the zoo it looks like the 15 is faster? Can someone explain this to me?
Hi @rosslote
When choosing between the Hailo-8 and Hailo-15, it really depends on the specific application you’re targeting.
Hailo-8 offers up to 26 TOPS, which is excellent for general AI inference tasks with low power consumption (only 2.5 W). It is a great choice for boosting your current edge solutions or adding additional inference capabilities to a system. It provides high efficiency and scalability for multiple AI models. It is a great option for various industries, including automotive and industrial applications, thanks to its temperature range and compact integration. You may choose the Hailo-8 if you have already selected a platform for your product and want to speed things up.
However, if you are looking for an all-in-one integrated solution for the edge that requires working with computer vision systems or smart cameras while adding AI capabilities, the Hailo-15 might be the best choice. Its strength lies in its specialized vision processing capabilities, including advanced image enhancement, 4K60 support and superior object detection. It is designed for high frame rate applications where image quality and real-time video processing are crucial, which may explain why it appears faster in certain benchmarks. Looked at another way, the Hailo-15 includes the huge range of benefits of the Hailo-8 plus the hardware acceleration typical of embedded systems.
