Using Hailo 8/8L 2230 with A+E Key port with 1x speed

Hi,

Is anyone using Hailo 8/8L with M.2 A+E Key port which only has 1x speed? Trying to make sure it will work on my machine before buying. Its a i3-13100 CPU Asus Prime H610I Plus Motherboard running ubuntu 24.04. I do have coral but its long past EOL so want to make sure I am good here.

TIA

Welcome to the Hailo Community!

The Hailo-8 M.2 A+E module is compliant with the PCIe specification and supports PCIe Gen 3 with up to 2 lanes (x2). During system initialization, PCIe devices automatically negotiate both the link speed and the number of lanes. Therefore, if the motherboard only provides a single PCIe lane (x1), the device should still function, albeit with reduced bandwidth.

Based on the motherboard manual, it appears you are considering using the M.2 slot with an E-key, typically intended for Wi-Fi modules. In many cases, such slots do provide PCIe connectivity, but this is not guaranteed unless explicitly stated in the motherboard’s specifications or datasheet.

A practical way to verify this is to check whether an existing Wi-Fi module in that slot is detected as a PCIe device. On Linux, you can do this using the lspci command. If the Wi-Fi module shows up there, it indicates that the slot does indeed expose PCIe, which increases the likelihood that the Hailo-8 module will work in that slot.

However, since the documentation does not clearly confirm PCIe support for that specific slot, compatibility cannot be guaranteed without testing.
