Power Consumption

Does Hailo 8 drain your laptop battery even when the laptop is switched off? I have installed Hailo 8 on HP 865 G9 with Proxmox. Otherwise everything is working fine.

The Hailo-8 M.2 module relies on the host system to manage its power. As long as the module is powered, it will consume a small amount of power (around 600 mW ) to keep the PCIe interface active and wait for the host to send data.

How is the Hailo-8 M.2 module connected to your laptop? Is it installed in an internal M.2 slot, or are you using a Thunderbolt adapter? It may also be worth checking your BIOS settings to see if there is an option to enable or disable power to the M.2 slot or Thunderbolt port while the laptop is powered off.

Hi Klaus,

I connected to the internal m.2 directly. I understand that it consumes power whenever my laptop is on. But i am suspecting its consuming power when my laptop is off.

The systems power management should remove power to the M.2 slot when the system shuts down.

I recommend measuring the voltage at the 3.3V pins of the M.2 connector to see whether this is the case.
