Hi,
I have a Raspberry Pi 5 with an AI Hat+ running trixie. In following the instructions in ‘Hailo-Apps v25.10.0 Released (Raspberry Pi Trixie OS support)’ I encountered a problem that may indicate a possible bug in setup_env.sh:
sudo apt update
sudo apt full-upgrade
sudo apt install dkms # very important**,** otherwise the driver won’t be installed correctly
sudo apt install hailo-all
git clone GitHub - hailo-ai/hailo-apps · GitHub
cd hailo-apps-infra
sudo ./scripts/cleanup_installation.sh
sudo ./install.sh --no-tappas-required # to avoid previously-encountered tappas version discrepancies
I executed this procedure except for inserting a couple of reboots, and all steps ran successfully, including install.sh, which printed:
Installation completed successfully!
Virtual environment: /home/dave/xybot/hailo/hailo-apps-infra/venv_hailo_apps
To activate: source /home/dave/xybot/hailo/hailo-apps-infra/setup_env.sh
Log file: /home/dave/xybot/hailo/hailo-apps-infra/logs/install_20260921_042026.log
However, ‘source /home/dave/xybot/hailo/hailo-apps-infra/setup_env.sh’ failed:
dave@rpi5ai:~/xybot/hailo/test $ source /home/dave/xybot/hailo/hailo-apps-infra/setup_env.sh

Project directory added to PYTHONPATH for this session:
/home/dave/xybot/hailo/test
Virtual environment directory ‘venv_hailo_apps’ not found. Please ensure it is created and try again.
But the find command did locate venv_hailo_apps as a sub directory of hailo-apps-infra. I inspected setup_env.sh, and it defines VENV_NAME=“venv_hailo_apps”, which is a relative path, not an absolute one, which assumes that VENV_NAME resides in the directory in which the source command was executed. But I execute it in my project directory, which is somewhere else. So then I created a symlink from the venv_hailo_apps directory to my project directory, and now setup_env.sh prints:
dave@rpi5ai:~/hailo/test $ source /home/dave/xybot/hailo/hailo-apps-infra/setup_env.sh
Setting up the environment…

Project directory added to PYTHONPATH for this session:
/home/dave/hailo/test
Virtual environment ‘venv_hailo_apps’ activated
Environment variables loaded from /usr/local/hailo/resources/.env
(venv_hailo_apps) dave@rpi5ai:~/hailo/test $ deactivate
This seems like progress, but I haven’t tried to construct and run an actual tappas-less hailo demo yet. I plan to do that soon. but meanwhile I wonder: is there an actual bug in setup_env.sh regarding the file path to venv_hailo_apps, or am I just confused?
Thanks for whatever help you can provide.
