Hailo-10H on Raspberry Pi AI HAT+ 2 times out during inference, including direct hailortcli run2

have a Raspberry Pi with an AI HAT+ 2 (Hailo-10H).

The card identifies correctly after a cold boot:

hailortcli fw-control identify

Output:

However, inference times out.

This first appeared through hailo-ollama (LLM models like qwen2:1.5b and llama3.2:3b), but I can reproduce it directly with hailortcli using a standard non-LLM vision HEF, so this does not appear to be an Ollama-specific issue.

Minimal reproducer after cold boot, with no hailo-ollama running:

hailortcli fw-control identify
hailortcli run2 -t 1 set-net /usr/share/hailo-models/resnet_v1_50_h10.hef set-vstream resnet_v1_50/input_layer1

Observed output from the second command:

Running starts normally, then:
[HailoRT] [error] CHECK failed - Waiting for async pipeline to be ready has timed out!

Relevant HailoRT log line:

In the hailo-ollama path, I also see:

  • Failed to read generator
  • HAILO_TIMEOUT(4)
  • sometimes later Failed to destroy VDevice / Failed to destroy Device

Environment:

  • Raspberry Pi kernel: Linux 6.12.62+rpt-rpi-2712
  • h10-hailort: 5.1.1
  • h10-hailort-pcie-driver: 5.1.1
  • hailo-h10-all: 5.1.1
  • hailo-models: 1.0.0-2
  • hailo-gen-ai-model-zoo: 5.1.1

Because the same timeout happens in direct hailortcli with /usr/share/hailo-models/resnet_v1_50_h10.hef, the problem looks lower-level than hailo-ollama:

  • HailoRT / Hailo-10H runtime path
  • PCIe link / hardware stability
  • driver / firmware / kernel compatibility on this platform

I also physically reconnected / reseated the AI HAT+ 2 and repeated the same direct run2 test. The result was unchanged:

Double check. Yes, both in raspi-config and in /boot/firmware/config.txt. Cold started.

Do you see any thermal issues/throttling?

I have a similar setup with exact same symptoms. After a cold restart, extracting the runtime logs (hailortcli logs runtime) , there seems to be a a failure:

I used the official sources as instructed for the installation, cloned the github repository GitHub - hailo-ai/hailo-apps Β· GitHub

I am able to reproduce this with using hailo-ollama as well so the issue is not with the HEF only.

I did run my logs after separate tries through Claude-AI to compile findings:

Board: Raspberry Pi AI HAT+ 2, board-sku-6 (Hailo10 RPI 8GiB) Packages: all 5.1.1 β€” h10-hailort, h10-hailort-pcie-driver, hailo-gen-ai-model-zoo Config: PCIe Gen3 enabled, ASPM disabled (confirmed via lspci), device in D0

Issue: vDMA never transfers any data. Pipeline configures successfully every time, but inference always times out with 0 frames transferred.

Key findings from hailortcli logs runtime:

  1. On every boot: ina2xx_precise 0-0040: INA2xx detection failed (manufacturer ID mismatch or read error): -121

  2. Pipeline configures successfully (~48ms for vision, ~1600ms for LLM)

  3. After exactly 10s timeout: Queue element [...] has 0 frames in his Queue on destruction

  4. Device immediately cycles back to D3hot after every failed inference

  5. Reproduced consistently across resnet vision HEF, qwen2:1.5b, and llama3.2:3b
